Today's Monkey Shot

There's something really funny about animals holding guns. I don't know what it is, but it must be something. Maybe its the juxtaposition of the really cute with such a dangerous thing? Love this monkey shot.

Cute Overload

Oh dear, this site is so addictive. I spent 2 hrs here just clicking on cute animal photos...check out the Kitten War, its hilarious.

Film: Shop Girl

Watched this on DVD last night & was pleasantly surprised. It's a romantic comedy for all those people who don't like the usual formulaic Hollywood-type romantic comedies.

I absolutely LOVE Jason Schwartzman (spunk!) and also good ol' Steve Martin. There's a lovely style to this movie, its got great atmosphere and the cinemaphotography makes LA actually look beautiful - quite a feat really. The dialogue is snappy, clever & original... And in the end true love wins out, as it always does.

Favorite scene: the tastefully done first seduction scene with Claire Danes & Steve Martin.

There's also a nice bit when JS is leaving a message on CD's phone and is reading directly from a self-help book on intimacy in relationships, apologising to her for 'objectifying' her... classic.

Have not read SM's book of the same name [Shopgirl], but have heard it's a good read.

Nice soundtrack too, not what you would expect, mostly classical music.

Friend: Criseyde

This is the first of new blog entries on my friends, yes, I'm outing you all; I'm so damn proud of you I want to show you off. Remember, you can run but you can't hide.

Here is my friend Criseyde. Hello Criseyde! She's unique, she's way ahead of her time, she's living on the edge of this moment, I learn a lot from her. She has that knack of saying the one thing that you need to hear at the very moment you need to hear it, to give you insight and also affirmation. Sometimes it's like she's channelling it from the Greater Intelligence or something. She rocks. She's also one of those people who grab life by the short-n-curlies and absolutely refuses to let go. Rock on Ms Criseyde.

Film: The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

I loved this movie! So WELL DONE. It's been awhile since I've been so engaged by a film that I forgot about the popcorn that we dropped on the floor as the lights dimmed (a whole one third of the container!). This film is one of my tops for the year. It's got everything, great plot, good story telling, great acting, cinemaphotography, characterization, sub-plots EVERYTHING! I didn't think I'd be this satisfied by a film like this, I thought it would have too much violence for me, but it was all in context and all done with a heart of gold.

Tommy Lee is great & this is his directorial debut. The film was shot on his ranch in Texas and features his own very, very cute horse. There's a great scene at the end of the film when he's riding away on a mule and his horse whinnies & looks longingly after him. You can't train a horse to do that, it was so natural that it made the eternal horsey-girl inside me cry.

Today is the first day...

... of the rest of my life.. so I'm not going to waste it, and although it's currently 12noon on a Monday and I'm still in my pj's that's okay, got to ease myself gently into the week of job hunting, or rather offering myself up to the world of commerce to earn a buck so I can blow this popsicle stand... (this is a very long sentence)... not that there's anything wrong with this current popsicle stand, just that I'm getting a wee bit bored of it as you may know from previous posts... but I digress...

After accomplishing last week's goal of sending out creative expressions into the outside world via submitting to a literary journal, this week's goal is to get off my ass & get a decent job. The gallery has cut my hours back again due to lack of major exhibition and the search is on for something fulfilling & well-paying. I launch into this financial challenge with much positivity & enthusiasm. Yee-haw!!

The planets are on my side: my ruler mars just crossed into Leo.. a happy place for Mars to be!

My motivational quote for the day:
You will do foolish things, but do them with enthusiasm. ~ Collette.

Today I am a happy monkey.
